No denying it, coverage of the Apple Watch is at fever pitch (and I'm not talking about the scintillating 90s rom-com or the Drew Barrymore/Jimmy Fallon remake in 05).
Since Tim Cook dropped the April launch date during the last Apple earnings call, news outlets and blogs have been going bananas. Everything is being dissected from Apple's launch plans, how it's going to remodel stores through to crazy factoids about how hairy armed humans will struggle to have their heart rate monitored!
So with all this going on I thought it time for us to chime in with a piece on this revolutionary device. As tempted as I was to write a blog on hair removal I thought it better placed to share some detail about what to expect from ETA when it hits the Apple Watch.
Now before we unveil the goods we have to take note that Apple has released some very prescriptive and brilliant guidelines on how to design and develop apps for the Apple Watch. There is no doubting Apple are aiming to provide users with a consistent experience across all Apple Watch apps. Some of the examples seen in the press don't fully appreciate these limitations so are setting unrealistic expectations. Hopefully more thoughtful analysis will prevail.
ETA for Apple Watch is a simple, yet obvious extension of the iPhone app.
ETA for Apple Watch displays all your locations in a scrollable list. Quickly view the travel time or estimated time of arrival for all your locations in a jiffy. Tap into a location for a detailed view and the ability to get turn by turn directions from the Apple Watch Maps app.
ETA for Apple Watch will be included in a future update of ETA that will be available when the Apple Watch is released in April. The watch app will be a free upgrade for existing owners of the ETA app.
## Update - 24th April, 2015 ##
Those checking the Apple Watch App Store today will notice that ETA for Apple Watch is not listed. As you've read in the above blog we had plans on being ready day 1 but things haven't eventuated that way. ETA for Apple Watch is bundled in a much larger update for ETA for iPhone, it's a huge update and one we think our customers will love but it's just not ready for prime time. We're very close and we're hoping to release over the next few weeks.
Thanks for your understanding. Justin and I can't wait to show you what we've been working on!
